About the programme

The North Huyton NDC area sits in approximately the centre of the Borough of Knowsley, Merseyside. The area borders the eastern fringe of Liverpool and nestles between the A57 main artery into the city and the M57 motorway.

In 2001 the population stood at 9,813 and there was a predominance of social housing. Residents identified with six definable sub-areas: Fincham, Finch House, Woolfall North, Woolfall South, Hillside and Primalt.

A number of quality of life indicators were poor, mainly involving physical and environmental factors, but including educational attainment, health and unemployment levels. There was, however, a strong and active community and a number of local initiatives in place on which to build, such as Pathways Objective One, Sure Start and an Education Action Zone.
