Major Projects

North Huyton Primary Care Trust

A new multi million pound health facility opened in 2008, serving around 8,500 patients. It delivers community health development programmes, with two GPs, dental services, a pharmacy and seven rooms available for clinics and outpatient services.

Community Wellbeing Team

The Community Wellbeing Team considers the health of the community holistically and is implementing a succession of targeted projects bringing real change to peopleís lives. Projects funded include: smoking cessation; healthy eating; physical activity; sports development; sexual health; drugs and alcohol workers.

Teenage Pregnancy Awareness

In 2002 North Huyton was a teenage pregnancy hotspot. By 2005, with a campaign part-funded by the PCT, the council, and NDC, two full-time specialist youth workers had targeted nearly 4,000 young people with sexual health advice, information and support. The project won the National 2007 Municipal Journal Award for Best Achievement in Tackling Health Inequalities.

Complementary Projects

Health Bus

The NDC-sponsored bus provided a daily nurse-led mobile health facility, offering residents doorstep access to primary care provision in various neighbourhood locations from 2004 to 2008.

Aids and Adaptations

Waiting lists for home adaptations for those most in need in North Huyton were long and frustrating. Knowsley Housing Trust and the NDC’s health team joined forces to fund a speed-up of the installations.

Health Impact Assessment (HIA)

HIA measures the effects the regeneration programme has on the community. The results are instrumental in targeting and enabling action to alleviate the most detrimental impacts.
