Major Projects

Specialist Construction Skills Centre (SCSC)

This £6.5 million construction skills and training centre, opened in January 2008, marks the start of a new chapter in North Huyton.

Working in partnership with Huyton Churches Training Services (HCTS) – which has been training people in Knowsley for 28 years – SCSC has made a significant commitment to North Huyton by relocating to this new, purpose-built centre on Princess Drive.

Road2Work (R2W)

NDC staff and residents designed the R2W project to tackle 2001’s alarming employment statistics:

78% of the working population economically inactive

58% with no formal qualifications. Government ministers identified North Huyton NDC as a model of employment best practice.

Road2Work Shop

The R2W shop operated at the heart of the community, supporting residents as they moved into jobs or training.

Road2Work Specialist Construction Team

Linked to the rebuilding programme, the team worked closely with the developers and contractors to find employment for local people, and identified gaps in skills so appropriate training could be offered to residents.
